The Cost Lab is a hub where all semiconductor construction engineers can reference to learn more about industry vocabulary, software and guidelines.
This industry is constantly changing. Formal education is not sufficient to teach how to read advanced manufacturing drawings or use any of the latest software.
This is because of (2) reasons:
1. Companies that build these types of facilities require strict NDAs and this limits teaching materials
2. The field changes so quickly that what professors teach is now obsolete
That means you either have to rely on your manager (assuming they will have time to teach you) or spend years teaching yourself on the job. At The Cost Lab we address these issues by designing our own drawings and using them to teach.
Hi, I’m Liz. I have worked in the semiconductor construction industry for (3) years after graduating college. I was Valedictorian of Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Portland. I worked for a General Contractor as an estimator and now I am a cost consultant. I built training programs for (2) construction companies and decided I wanted to teach outside the limits of internal companies. I spent the last year learning how to code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and founded The Cost Lab.
Hi, I’m Max. I have worked in the semiconductor construction industry for (1) year after graduating college. I majored in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portland. Liz and I met through our old professor and I was soon hired on as an estimator for a General Contractor. I learned how to code in Python and dabbled in software to automate manual tasks. I spent the last year learning and teaching semiconductor construction and am co-founder of The Cost Lab.
